Award winning Taos poet, Cathy Strisik, in conjunction with the Chesed Project, will begin offering monthly sessions for people with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers, to stimulate memory and discussion through the use of poetry and visuals such as paintings and photographs. Classes will take place at the Taos Public Library. As Larry Schreiber MD Taos physician for 34 years, notes " With the graying of our population the prevalence of cognitive impairment goes up geometrically. Let the rest of us not forget this important segment of our society. The effect of poetry in stimulating the memory impaired can only be positive for the individual and their family."
Strisik has been active in the writing community of Taos, New Mexico for over 27 years as a poet, poetry mentor for children, and reading specialist for children with learning disabilities. Strisik is the author of the recently published poetry collection, Thousand-Cricket Song.
